An explosion has occurred outside a mosque in Gombe State, according to emerging reports.

A suicide bomber reportedly tried to gain entrance into the place of worship, which is situated in Tasomacha near the state university, but the device he was carrying exploded prematurely.

The bomb is said to have gone off today, January 13, at about 6:50pm just as the Muslim faithful were rounding off the Maghrib prayers.

A source told The Cable:

“They were just rounding off the prayers when the thing happened. The suicide bomber wanted to enter the mosque, but before he reached the mosque, the thing exploded.”

“The explosion affected him and other people by the road side. “We don’t know the casualty toll yet, but it won’t be high. If the bomber had succeeded in entering the mosque, it would have been a different story,” the source added.

This comes just days after two female suicide bombers attacked the GSM market in Potiskum, Yobe State » leaving six people dead and 21 others injured.
