NERC offers license to eight companies to Generate 1,648MW of Electricityin Nigeria

A statement from the commission in Abuja explained that the licences were a mixture of on-grid; off-grid; embedded generation and distribution ofelectricity.
Signed by its head ofpublic affairs, Dr. Usman Arabi, the statement noted that one of the licensees, Ossiomo Power and Infrastructure which is based in Edo State would engage in electricity distribution as well as embedded generation of 55MW of gas-powered electricity.
Anambra State Independent Power Generation Company Limited which is located in Onitsha and expected to operate as an on-grid gas-fired pla would generate with its license, 528MW of electricity.
Others according to the statement are CumminsPower Generation with a capacity for a 3.5MW off-grid capacity and a 1.7MW to serve A&P Foods in Agege, Lagos; Sinosun Investment Limited which is based in Jibiya, Kastina State for an on-grid solar power generation of 100MW capacity and LR-Aaron Power Limited, located in Gwagalada for 100MW solar powered electricity generation.
Also licensed by NERC was Lafarge Africa Plc for an on-grid gas-fired 260MW in Ewekoro, Ogun State; Azikel Power Limited for an on-grid 500MW power plant located in Obunagha in Bayelsa State and Middle Band Solar One Limited from Kogi State for an on-grid licence of100MW.
The commissionnotedthat the licensee include six gas-fired power generation projects with a combined electricity capacity of 1,348MW and three solar generations with a combined capacity of 300MW.
