Gunmen kill Odionwere Community Head in Edo


A Sixty-six-year old community head in Ugbowo area of Benin City in Edo State was on Saturday night killed by gunmen who invaded his residence.
NAN reports that thedeceased, Mr John Asemota, was the Odionwere (Clan Head) of Power-line communityat Ugbowo.
The gunmen, sevenin number, were said to have attackedthe late Asemota’s residence at about 9:30 p.m. and shot him in the head and back.
The deceased’sson, Mr Osemudiamen Asemota, who narrated theincident to the NAN, also said three of his father’s tenants were also shot.
He said his father died on the spot, while his tenantswere rushed tothe University of Benin Teaching Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
Osemudiamensaid the incident was reported atthe Ogbowo Divisional Police Headquarters which responded promptly by coming to the sceneshortly afterthe incident occurred.
“It was thepolice that took my father’s body to themortuary, while they also rushed those were shot to thehospital for medical attention.”
He, however, ruled out possibility of robbery, alleging that his fatherwas killed over communityissues.
WhenNAN called at theOgbowo Divisional Police Headquarters, some officersconfirmed theincident, but refusedto commenton the incident.
