THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY TODAY

Music has been defined to be a sound or the study of such sound organized in time or anything pleasing or interesting to the ears,  music can also be referred to as a tune or sequence of notes which  make up a musical phrase ,music comes in different forms and every person has a specific sound or kind of tune or vibe which he/she always enjoys listening to once in a while ,we have salsa ,hip hop , RnB ,  gospel  reggae  and so many more .But looking at the Nigerian entertainment  industry today, one will notice that  the music and the movies section are actually the leading segments of the industry .But even at that, actors/actresses /artistes don’t get their full benefits due to piracy and so many more .Well leaving that aside for now.

These days we actually have a lot of  people who are trying to make it in the industry even though they lack the musical talent ,they still try to push further. Well to be sincere the industry really isn’t based on the talent you’ve got or the  way you put yourself ……the industry is strictly based on WHO YOU KNOW AND WHAT YOU KNOW . Who you know ,in the sense that you have to know a senior person in the industry  who may be able to help you  scale through or if you are able to provide it monetary form.  And what you know ,in the sense that when you get your track ready and you think it’s great and you are sure that once that track hits the public ,it will have massive hits ,then you will be confident ,that  is  based on what you know ,but these two major things are what really make people hide their talents and in some cases deny their God given talents . For example ,here in Nigeria we have a lot of talent shows that take place from time to time and during these shows you get to see many young and old Nigerians who have more talents than those bigger stars  in the industry and you now ask yourself that why isn’t this guy the person up there ? But the truth is that, it’s not as if the person hasn’t tried it in the industry, he has actually tried but because he lacks those two major things that the industry is based on, he will be declined at sight even if he has something great to offer.  And at the end of the day only a few get to win these shows and the rest go home. But not withstanding some of these people have their own flaws because most stars in Nigeria today in one way or the other had to meet somebody along the line or something miraculously  happened that caused their fame and fortune to come .and when the fame comes most of them forget where they came from …… now the truth about the matter is that songs these days don’t really play the inspirational role they  use to play before, because the concentration and attention as well as the emotion you put into your demo and your first five songs that made those songs a hit ,have actually in one way or the other disappeared . so if these major things are lost you as an artiste will be left with and empty song which has no inspirational value and when released in to the public it only has massive  or no hits for a very short period because you have less things to offer. people soon leave your kind of music and face another artiste who is doing better . so this problem keeps on repeating itself on every new born star and when he/she  gets there, he might not be able to make it far again that’s why most stars at one point or the other get tired of the whole thing and quit the industry at once.

So if the music industry can actually face full time talents as well as the person’s  ability to do what he does best  then the music industry will be a better place for young people waiting and hoping to show the world what they have to offer , instead of performing   under the shadows he will perform  on great stages  and instead of hiding his talents he would have the confidence to show it forth anytime and any day he is given the opportunity and even after that the industry can also have some sort of programmes which train and encourage those hoping to be  stars one day. Only then will   music  have it’s full values again .it wouldn’t just be singing for singing sake but it would be singing for a  reason .
