This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Minna by Mr Israel Ebije, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Babangida Aliyu.

The statement, however, said that the holiday would not affect Federal Government workers and those in private establishments.

``Niger state government has decided to declare Friday 19 and Monday 22 December as work-free days.

``This is to enable civil servants who are yet to have their Permanent Voters Cards, the opportunity to do so ahead of the 2015 general election,” it said.

NAN reports that INEC would commence the issuance of PVC in the state from Friday, Dec. 19 to Sunday, Dec. 21.

The commission has also fixed Tuesday, Dec. 23 to Saturday Dec. 27 for the Continuous Voters Registration.

The government urged the civil servants to use the period to enlighten the general public on the significance of the exercise in relation to the success of the 2015 general election.
