Corpse of ex-governor of anambra state disappears

The burial ceremony of the late Ifeanyi Nwobodo could not hold yesterday, December 5, after his corpse went missing from the mortuary where it was kept.

Drama ensued during the funeral ceremony of Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, the son of the former governor of the old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo which was billed to hold yesterday, December 5, in Enugu State.

The burial could however not hold after the corpse of the younger Nwobodo, who died on November 14 » , went missing from the mortuary where it was kept.

The trouble is said to have started after the former governor refused to bury the deceased, his first son, within his compound in Amaechi Awkunanaw but instead chose an external site.

The younger brothers of the late Nwobodo, identified as Chukwudi and Uso, however, perceived their father’s action as a means to rob them of the chance to inherit the house in question and thus decided to make away with their brother’s corpse.

Guests who arrived for the burial to honour the former Governor, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and former governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, were forced to leave after failing to appease the warring parties.

However, Vanguard » reports that the family held a meeting with the Archbishop of the Enugu Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion, Emmanuel Chukwuma, after which it was decided that the corpse be buried at the St. Mathew’s Anglican Church in Amechi Awkunanaw.
