BH tactics: woman arrested with bomb in flask

The suspect, an old woman, was caught at the General Shuwa Memorial Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno state with a bomb hidden inside a food flask.

Security agents in Maiduguri, Borno State have reportedly arrested a suspected female suicide bomber, authorities say.

The suspect, an old woman, was caught at the General Shuwa Memorial Hospital in the state capital with a bomb hidden inside a food flask, Guardian reports.

The woman was said to have entered the hospital premises at about 11:35 am on Thursday, December 4, disguised as a patient’s relative.

She was stopped for a search at the gate but reportedly refused to open one of the flasks she was carrying.

A guard at the hospital is said to have stated:

“When she was asked to open the other flask, she refused, swearing that she will not open it. Our security guards have to call the soldiers at a military post to ascertain whether or not the flask contains any explosive.”

“Three minutes after, the bomb detector beeped for some seconds, indicating the presence of an explosive device, and the old woman was immediately whisked away by the military personnel to an unknown destination for further interrogation and investigation,” he added.

Maiduguri has in recent times suffered from bomb attacks carried out by women as two female suicide bombers blew themselves up in a busy market
