Boko Haram insurgents have taken over the secretariat of the Madagali local government area in Adamawa State.
Th dreaded sect who were heavily armed stormed the administrative headquarters of Madagali local government area in the early hours of today, August 23, dislodging the Nigerian soldiers who were guarding the facility and surrounding areas.
According to a security source who spoke to Sahara Reporters, the insurgents who came in their hundreds were armed with shoulder-fired rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) and anti-aircraft mortar guns mounted on pickup vans.
They were said to have been led by armored vehicles which they had seized earlier from Nigerian troops during their attack in Gwoza, Borno State.
It was difficult overrunning the soldiers who reportedly scampered out of sight in the face of the militants’ heavy gunfire.
The militants then promptly hoisted their flag and seized the administrative headquarters of Madagali local government area.
Madagali is now the latest town to join the list of towns taken over by the dreaded sect.
Other towns which have been captured by Boko Haram in recent times include Gwoza in Borno State and Buni Yadi in Yobe State.
The terrorists also invaded the Police Mobile Training Camp in nearby Limankara village and took over the facilities on ground.
Just today, report surfaced that the insurgent group had attacked Pulka village of Gwoza and sacked the whole community, hoisting their flag and claiming it as part of their unrecognised republic.
Thousands including security operatives have been killed across Nigeria, and many rendered homeless especially in the north-eastern region since Boko Haram launched its violent attacks in 2009.
