Ilevbare, who stated this while addressing newsmen in Ado Ekiti to announce the 2013 FIDA week, noted that the increased empowerment of women and better involvement and awareness by the Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the state had helped in the reduction of gender-based violence in the state, especially violence against women.
Ilevbare identified poverty as the cause of gender-based violence in the state, adding that “since the present administration has been tackling poverty, especially among women, cases of violence against women has reduced drastically.”
The FIDA chairperson said that the passage of equal opportunities was not targeted against men, nor was it meant to promote women over and above men, but was created for both gender to function maximally.
