Chief Mike Ozekhome On How He Was Kidnapped, Why He Advocated Amnesty For Criminals

Benin, Edo State - Speaking at a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church on weekend, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, recalled how he was kidnapped in August 2013, and clarified why he urged the Federal Government to grant amnesty for kidnappers.
The lawmaker was kidnapped in August 23, 2013, but was rescued by policemen, some of which were killed by the abductors. He said people criticising his statement about amnesty for kidnappers misunderstood his words.
He said people could not understand why he would ask to pardon the people who abducted hand tortured him. Ozekhome explained it is very important to learn to forgive.
By giving your enemies "food," or "water" when they are "hungry" or "thirsty," one "will be hopefully pouring hot charcoals and fire" on their heads, Ozekhome said.
He said he did not curse or ask for retribution, and when two weeks passed since his release, the masterminds of the gang that kidnapped him were apprehended.
Remembering his abduction, he said he was not the target of the kidnappers, but rather ran into them himself.
