PHOTOS: Inside The Armed Chad Bound Russian Plane (UPDATED) Russia Blames France

The Nigerian army had yesterday intercepted a Russian airplane on its way to chad with a large cache of AK47s and bullet proof vests, and even a helicopter.
The Russian jet, labelled AH-124-100, is a heavy military transport aircraft.

It is said to be used for heavy duty transport as it is one of the biggest heavy lifters in the world.

UPDATE: Russia Disowns Plane, Blames France

The Russian government has denied any association with the aircraft loaded with armed weapons.

In a series of tweets the Russian government said that the plane belonged to the French peacekeeping force.

The Embassy then said they are taking all measures to ensure the departure of the aircraft with the French military equipment on board.

Through its embassy tweeter handle, they wrote:“According to the information of the Embassy, the detained in Kano plane, allegedly carrying military hardware on board, is not Russian,” the Russia Embassy wrote.
The plane also hard several unrecognized hardwares the Nigerian officials suspect to be ammunitions and special equipment.

Security at the airport has been increased since the seizue of the plane.

FAAN general manager of communication, Yakubu Datti said: “The plane had a technical problem and the pilot sought (for) permission to land at the airport’’.

Mr Datti said that security agencies had since commenced investigation into the matter.

The Defence Headquarters has however confirmed the development on its twitter handle [@DefenceInfoNG].

“An Antonov Cargo aircraft carrying some military hardware was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in the early hours of Saturday 6th Dec. 2014,” the military tweeted. “Investigation is ongoing to determine the content and origin of the aircraft. Further details will be made as soon as the investigation is completed.”

Yesterday at the Kano airport, a Chad bound plane was seized where it was discovered that plane was being used as a weapon transportation device.

The planes crew are currently undergoing investigation. This is the third time since 2009 that a Russian plane loaded with arms would be arrested in Kano. The detained planes were later released after investigations.
