Osun Secondary School Rival Cultists Clash, 10 Injured

No fewer than 10 persons were injured as some pupils of St. James Anglican School in the Kola Balogun area of Osun State clashed on Monday with their counterparts at the Ansar-U-Deen Secondary School, Iludun.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that most of the pupils engaged in the clash belonged to rival cult groups.

Residents of the area said the pupils had clashed on Friday, adding that a pupil almost lost his arm in the fight.

It was gathered that pupils who were injured during the Monday clash were rushed to a hospital where they were treated. There were conflicting reports on the cause of the Monday clash.

While some said it was a fight over a girl, others said it was a reprisal by those whose member was injured on Friday.

A female pupil said, “Just as we were about settling down in school this morning, friends of the Saint James’ pupil who was injured during the last week fight attacked and started using machete and charms on us. “Some pupils were injured.

We learnt that it was a reprisal. One pupil, who was said to be a cult guy, was said to have been beaten by members of a rival group.

This was what caused the revenge mission today (Monday).” The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, could not be reached as her phone rang out. Also, the text sent to her was not replied to. However, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state, Mr. Ayo Olowe, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

He said that three students were injured while some of the pupils were arrested by the police.
