We often tend to ignore or forget, for whatever reason, important lessons that life has taught us. Most of the following 10 truths are obvious, but some of us often forget them, while others haven’t even noticed them yet. No matter how hard we try to ignore it, the truth is still out there!
1. Surrounding yourself with the right people could be vital. Have you been with someone who makes you feel emotionally drained? Someone who doesn’t support you, respects you only when you live their way, makes you feel unattractive etc.? In general, people who make you feel uncomfortable and around whom you can’t be yourself. You have to learn to let go of such people because you will only be as great as the people you surround yourself with. There is no point of investing time and energy in such relationships. Instead, try building connections with people who inspire you to be the best version of yourself and charge you with positive energy. 2. Falling in the hands of materialism is easy and dangerous. It’s well-known that the consumer culture is a thing thanks to the big corporations and their marketing and media experts. We are all constantly reminded, through various sources, that we need all those shiny new things in our lives in order to be happy. You have to create your own culture and lifestyle –don’t be misled by fashion magazines and TV stars. They’ll always try to instill fake values, new fashions, behavior patterns and so on. That’s in the corporations’ best interest, not yours .Their only goal is to make money through your consumerism, not making you happy. What really matters is your life, friends, family, goals, hopes, etc. Concentrate on acquiring different experiences and meaningful connections, not possessions. The sad thing is, many misled people wake up one day and realize it was all a trick. They’ve lost something more valuable than their material ‘’wealth’’- time.
3. ”Actions speak louder than words, but not nearly as often.” Thinking and doing are two different things. They go hand by hand –knowledge is useless without action, and inconsiderate actions are likely to fail. You are what you do, not what you intend to do. Remember that after you gather all the information you need, it’s all up to courage and taking action. Good things don’t come to those who wait; they come to those who work on meaningful goals.
4. We are born to die. We all know deep down that someday we’re going to die and life seems to be just a moment in the eternity. However, we tend to ignore that fact whenever someone close passes always. The concept of time plays a great role in this illusion and how we perceive life and death. It’s important to take action TODAY and LIVE our lives while still having death in mind. Don’t fear death , just have it in mind and let that motivate you. Once you understand “the death problem”, you’ll rethink your values and goals for sure!
5. The cult of being busy. Many people need to be busy daily, in order to feel alive and significant. Few realize that being busy does not necessary mean being productive. As a matter of fact, less than half of the busy people are actually productive. Most of them are just rushing all over the place, being always late, trying to do tons of responsibilities for a short period of time. All they do is sacrifice quality for quantity. Busy people rarely have time for themselves or their families. Combined with lack of sleep, such factors could lead to personal problems and overall unhappiness. Still, some people love being busy due to the elevated sense of importance they get. But this is temporary and some day you may come to a conclusion that it wasn’t worth it all the time you’ve lost.
6. Forgiveness is a promise to yourself. Forgiving has nothing to do with satisfying the criminal’s guilt. It’s a promise to yourself not to let the unchangeable past interfere with the present. Also remember that you don’t have to wait for an apology to forgive someone. Overcome your pride and be thankful for every experience – bad or good. The key is to understand that there is no point in letting the negative from the past replace the positive in the present. Release yourself of the burden of being a victim and be thankful for the lesson you’ve learned.
7. Sometimes things have to go very wrong before they can be right People are often afraid of making mistakes. Mistakes are in the basis of improving and succeeding after. The phoenix must burn to emerge. Failure isn’t fatal, but failure to change might be. The solution to this problem is making friends with the failure. After all, don’t forget the difference between the teacher and the student: the teacher has failed more times than the student has ever tried. The master has thousands of failed attempts behind them, but no one really thinks of that. Everyone sees just the final result – success and nothing more. When you take risks you learn that there will be times when you succeed and there will be times when you fail, and both are equally important.
8. This is your life and it’s made up entirely of your choices. Frank Zappa said it- “If you end up with a boring, miserable life because you listened to your mom, your dad, your teacher, your priest, or some guy on television telling you how to do your shit, then you deserve it”. It’s always better to be at the bottom of the ladder you want to climb than the top of the one you don’t. I’m not saying you shouldn’t listen to other people’s advice. Just navigate slowly and carefully and process everything in your head before you jump to conclusions. This is your life and in the end ,you are all that matters. Always trust YOUR intuition and take determined action!
9. No one can love you more than you It’s not other people’s job to love you-it’s yours. Compassion and empathy are nice feelings, but in order to get anything done in this world, you have to love yourself first. The key is making sure you don’t let the opinion of others form who you are and how you see yourself. You know yourself best –your thoughts, your actions, your intentions, your goals, etc. If you haven’t found someone who loves you for all your ups and downs – be that person yourself.
10. Change is inevitable Everything is changing, every second! And this is happening for a reason, no matter if it’s a good or a bad change –it had to happen. It’s important that you can successfully adapt to whatever life serves you. This is where true intelligence comes in. This teaches us to value more what we have today, before it becomes what you had yesterday. People and places come and go – life doesn’t stop for anybody. Remember that no matter what times you’re going through, good or bad, everything is temporary –nothing is permanent in this world. The once poor may be the rich of tomorrow –it goes both ways. This is one thing you can count on for sure! So when your life is going smooth – enjoy it. When you have a bad time – be strong and patient. Realize that patience is not about waiting, it’s about keeping a good attitude while working hard for what you believe in.
