Unijos students protest over N10,000 increament in fees view pics below

Academic activitieswere paralysed on Monday, at theUniversity ofJos, following a protestby studentsof theuniversity over N10,000 developmentlevy imposed on the studentsby theauthorities of the institution.
The aggrieved students, in their hundreds, as early as 8:00 a.m, barricaded all roads leading to the two campusesof the university chanting anti authorities slogans while otherscarried placards with various inscriptions denouncing the managementof the institution.
The unfortunate developmentcaused a traffic gridlock on Bauchi road while staff membersof the institution, who arrived after8:00 a.m, could not enter and those already reported for work hurriedly leftthe university.
President of the Students’ Union Government, Mr Abel Nok, said he triedto pacify the studentsand beggedthem to write their examination, but theyrefused. “I met with the schoolauthoritiesand we resolvedto askthe studentstosit for theirexaminations pending the resolution of thedispute, but they were adamant.”
Meanwhile, the university authorities have shiftedthe examination that was supposed to commenceon Monday by one week but maintained that the studentswill pay the developmentlevy because the NEEDS fundprovided by theFederal Governmentcannot be divertedfor that purpose.
The vicechancellor of the University,Professor Hayward Mafuyai, who stated this, further explained that the moneygiven by theFederal Governmentfor NEEDS interventionwas to revitalise the dilapidated infrastructureand it was not supposed to be for service............. the protest is gradually becoming violent and due to this same protest some papers have been moved till further notice
