APC States Will Attend National Conference, Says Fayemi

In a dramatic statement to the public Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Ekiti State Governor said that his party has agreed to comply with the Federal request for members of APD to attend a national conference. “In order to continue tostrengthen participatory democracy, the governments of the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled states, will send delegates to the planned national conference as requested by the Federal Government.”The Ekiti State Governor, made the statement in an interview in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday. He said that the decision to participate in the conference is without prejudice to the party, and the eventual outcomeof the conference.According to Fayemi, the Governorsof APC controlled states are concerned, and of the opinion that the general state of affairs of the people they govern in their respective states should be given the chance to express their views on a variety of national issues at theconference. The scope of which, they say, covers fiscal federalism, local government creation and autonomy, state policing, the rising cost of governance, regionalism, electoral process, citizenship, and corruption, among others.“As Governors, we are governors ofall and not governors over (just) our party members alone, hence, the need to allow the states to send delegates to the conference,” he said.Fayemi added that the Governors believe that the conference is an invaluable opportunity to espouse ideological perspectives on these issues and for APC that has enjoyedunprecedented and widening support from Nigerians, it owes thepeople a duty to use the opportunity of the conference to canvass its views. The Governor however expressed belief that the conference would serve as a veritable “means to resolve knotty national issues,” and to also provide a vital medium for communication of disagreement and agreement no matter how sensitive or emotionally charged the issues are.
